OR, preferably, what is the youngest horse training age? Like I want to get a horse, and my parents are thinking about it? and i saw this mustang mare for 1500. She’s only 2, so she needs to be trained. How old would i have to be to train her?

We have a little debate in the stable where i work, I say that too much washing and water will gradually make the horses hooves them dry, we should continue to oil the hoof regularly and avoid water as much as possible, but another employee insists that we should wash the horses hooves every day regardless, whether they are dirty or not! She seems to think water will moisten the hooves. I would really like to learn what is right, as I only want the best for the horses and to stop the hooves being so dry. Any suggestions?

washing your horses hoofs unnecessarily will crack and dry them out i have event horses and unless its necessary never wash there hooves i never use hoof oil either unless I'm competing and use a hoof wax just to shine the hoof it drys the hoof out and causes more problems in the long run,i use a product called farriers formula in there feed it has biotin and strengthens there hooves its in pellet form and you add it to the feed and it promotes healthy hoof growth and strengthens there hoof its a supplement Ive been using for years and its made my horses feet crack free and prevents them loosing shoes.another product i use is called keraton its a paint on liquid which also strengthens the hoof, its expensive but it is applied once a week and for my horses it works they hardily ever loose a shoe and the farrier i use says my horses have lovely hooves and strong before i used the product,my horses feet were chipped and brittle and never kept shoes on this stuff worked wonders

Is it true that horses could attack enemy soldiers by biting and kicking? Were they trained to rescue their masters if they were wounded or fell down?

Middle Ages in Europe did not have fighting training for horses, not when they had to gallop with armour and armoured man on their back.
Later, when the armour disappeared horses were taught war moves, which are now showed as spectacles by such school as the Spanish school of Vienna. All those moves are in fact war moves, back kick, rearing, cabriole… (see the links) to be done when the rider give the right signal to the horse.
Horses are not intelligent and aggressive enough to go to the rescue of their riders, especially in the middle of a noisy scary fight. Without a rider to direct them horses listen to their instinct and run away. And a badly trained horse will not even listen to his rider and run away with his rider still on his back. That's called take the bit between his teeth.

So if it is so important that they get the right amount of salt intake, how would they get it in the wild?

In the wild they would not be limited to the area they can roam and would be able to acces natural mineral deposits the same as deer, elk, moose and other wildlife. There is also a big difference in quality of life between wild horses and domestic horses.

My daughter has been riding hunter/jumper for the last 6 years. The horse is not green, but he has primarily been an English pleasure horse and needs to be "polished".

Thanks for the recommendation of "The Horse Whisperer", but I couldn't get past the raunchy language on the first page. I'll think I'll have to pass on letting my daughter read it. lol

These are the follwing books I like, you do not have to buy them from the links, you can find them on ebay and amazon and most bookstores should be able to order them.

Just wondering if it would be feasible to power your entire house with bunch of horses or oxen?

How many would you need?

Would it be economical, as you obviously have to feed them?

Would PETA protest?
Also could recycle their feces and get methane gas from their flatus.

I think you would need one horse walking on a treadmill full time. That means you may need 5 horses since they need a rest. A horse pulling on a rope produces 750 Watts or 1 Horsepower which is more than enough for a home most of the time. During surges or heavy use the horse would have to work a little harder. You could put a big flywheel on the treadmill to even out the surges. Bringing the horses in in cold weather could help heat the home. You could also burn horse dung for more heat.
Put a bag on there rear ends to capture the methane. That can be used for heat or cooking.
Do you give a dam what PETA thinks? I don't. I love horse meat. It builds muscle and prevents cancer!

I am beginning to train my horses for jumping. He is a 16.2 hand Paint. He has a lot of strength. I want tips that will help me make his trot better(its bouncy), to be better collected and typical English things.

Good for you! But before you begin this process, Ask yourself two things: are you experienced enough to teach a horse to jump and do you have access to a trainer if you ever need help?

Here is a good exercise to improve your horse's trot:
Lay ground poles out one after another spaced a out 3 1/2 feet apart (adjust them to fit your horses stride when trotting). Ride over the poles in a half seat on a long rein, allowing the horse to stretch and use his hindquarters. As he improves, make the poles more spaced apart and lay down more poles to increase the difficulty.

When starting to jump, first begin by trotting over a ground pole, then cantering over it. Next move up to small cross rails (once the horse is comfortable with the ground pole). You will want to get a trainer at this point to watch you and the horse and look for problems. The trainer will also be able to tell you when the horse is ready to move up to bigger jumps.

To ask your horse to use his hindquarters better, ride on a loose rein with soft contact at the trot and ask more more energy. Be sure to let your hands follow the movement of your horse's head. If he is using his hindquarters well, he should be using more neck motion. Riding on hills will also help with this.

I would not suggest trying actual "collection" until later on when you and the horse have more experience. You can, however, ask the horse to speed up and use more energy to lengthen the horse's stride, and sit up tall and gently pull on the reins(breifly) to ask for less forward movement.

I hope this helps, and good luck with your riding!
