Do you feed your horse free choice hay or give them a certain amount?

I do free choice but with hay being short around here I am considering going to regular feedings. What does everyone else do?

I feed rationed based on body weight, each horse gets 3% of his weight if he needs to maintain his weight, 5% if it's a pregnant or nursing mare and as much as 7% if it needs to gain weight or is on a heavy work load. Of that 50% is grass hay, 40% alfalfa hay and, 10% grain and/or needed suppliments.
