How much grass hay do I feed per lb to my horse?
I need to know how much grass hay to feed per lb for my horse? Isn't it about 1 to 2 pounds hay per 100 pounds of horse?
Thanks in advance.
Two per 100 is fine, if he leaves some it cant hurt. So 20# a day of high quality grass is the usual, add in vitamin suppliment specific to your horse and grain as reccomended, 2-5# once or twice a day depending on how you are using your horse. Mineral block and daily fresh water, turnout on grass several times a week if you can. Useing somthing like a coffe can needs to be weighed first, and weigh your hay also. Its not just a scoop here, a flake there..a hay net held while standing on the scales gives you a good idea. Try Nutrena's website for nice detailed nutrition advice, and Purina is in there too.

It depends on what you are feeding with grain. For a 1200 lb horse, I give him 2 scoops grain twice a day as well as 3 flakes am and pm. but it also depends on how much excercise he is getting. If you email me I can give you more of an exact estimate.
