How much hay do you feed a horse everyday?
I need to know how much hay i need to buy every month
It depends on the horse and if you have pasture that the horse can graze on. And how active you are in riding. The more active a horse is, the more food they generally need.
I have a 2300 lbs. Percheron gelding that I just do very basic trail riding etc. He gets 3-4 flakes of hay in the morning, then he gets pasture turn out for about 8 hours and then he gets 3-4 flakes in the evening plus about 2.5 lbs. of packer pellets (compact alfalfa pellets because he's not allowed grain).
I'll be increasing his activity now that summer is getting here.
The 'light' horses at the barn are on the same schedule but they get 2 flakes of hay twice a day. If the horses have to be in their stalls all day because of rain or other bad weather - they get feed three times a day.
One ton of hay should last you awhile if you have pasture and one horse. Otherwise you'll to purchase it more often.

Typically one horse can eat about half a bail a day. But this can vary depending on what else you are feeding them, grain, grass supplements etc. It is also affected by how much exercise they are getting each day, and the quality of the hay.

If its an average sized horse it will probably eat just around a bale a week (grass hay, not alfalfa).

I would start off buying 10 bails for the first month at a half of bail a day because it's going to eat grass to when you let it out of the stable for exercise

how much hay do you feed a horse a day ?
well we feed 3 flakes morning and night.
ask a farmer what 3 flakes look like.
he will tell you every flake is the way hay falls apart when you break a bail. Any more that that will give
you an over weight horse. Horses like to eat all the time.
That is the way they where made.
But If you keep a horse inside he can only nibble on the stall walls. look into animal husbandry.
any good vet will tell you they do not need any more than that. But it has to be top quality hay. Alfalfa and timothy and orchard grass……….stay away from feeding cow hay.
straight alfalfa is to rich. they will founder.
ask a horse farm and they will tell you the right portion.
they know as the condition horses for show.
so only the best will do for them. Then it also depends on how much use the horse gets, as to weather you also feed it grain. then there is a proper worming table so your feeding program will work. do your home work, do not make the horse pay for you mistake.
Ask around…..
figure 6-9 flakes in one bale depends on size
one bale usually does 1 horse 2 maybe 3 days
.multiply that time 30 days. always have extra just in case. you never leave you self short………….good luck

Our horses are on hay 24/7 due to a lack of pasture that will provide any grazing for them. Those that are worked regularly are also on a 14% pelleted feed.

At my farm, we feed 60 horses 2 bales of hay twice a day. But that isnt all we feed them. Each horse has its own diet of grain and vitamins.

I usually feed two flakes a day (one in the am and one in the pm). However, they also receive sweet feed as well at each meal.
