how would you start a horse training and boarding business?
i was thinking about doing something like that for my SAE project for FFA

Actually you need to find/buld a proper facility then ADVERTISE.
Your facility needs to have the following:
1.) 10-20 horse stall barn.
2.) Arena (Size is your option) Lighted is nice
3.) Round Pen
4.) Wash Racks
5.) Hot Walker
6.) Trainer
7.) Lessons
8.) Hay barn
9.) Tackrooms (Individual)
10.) Grain room
12.) Pastures
Once you have all this, then you get to buy good quality hay to fill your haybarn. Remember to put the hay up on pallets so moisture can’t get through to it on the ground and that the hay is well ventilated.

Before I did anything else, I would try to assess the demand for a horse training/boarding business.
I would then spend some time crunching the financial numbers to see what kind of capital is involved, etc. How much would the facility I needed cost to own? To lease? Are there alternative ways of conducting business that don’t involve purchase or lease of a facility?
What other capital costs would the start-up involve? What things would I have to buy, what could I rent or lease, and what would be the financial terms?
How many employees would I need? What would salaries cost? What other costs are involved (e.g., social security, payroll taxes, workman’s compensation, insurance, etc.)?
Are there other miscellaneous costs I would find I had to come up with– e.g., business license, liability insurance, etc.?
How much capital would I need, in total, and what would be the cost of capital (e.g., if I have to borrow any of the money, how much is it going to cost me?)
What are recurring costs, things like utilities, feed and bedding for lesson horses, other costs?
Once you know what your expenses are, you divide by the number of stalls in your facility, and you know how much you’re into for each stall.
From there, you go to how much revenue you bring in per stall: board, training, lessons, etc., plus other revenues (like putting on clinics, commission on the purchase and sale of horses, consultation fees, etc.)
All this has to be done even before you think about the equestrian aspects of the venture.
(FWIW, about ten years ago I went through this exercise for real. It’s an eye-opener.)
